General Assembly

The General Assembly, comprised of all 193 Members of the United Nations, provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues. The General Assembly (GA) is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the UN. Decisions on important questions, such as those on peace and security, admission of new members and budgetary matters, require a two-thirds majority. Decisions on other questions are by simple majority.

 

The General Assembly in the VSMUN will be discussing the issue of the war with ISIS also known as The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is a jihadist rebel group that controls territory in Iraq and Syria and also operates in eastern Libya, the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, and other areas of the Middle East. In the past many months, ISIS has become very active and a huge battle is ongoing with ISIS. This is further escalated by the Syrian Civil War. The General Assembly will try to come up with a solution to peacefully resolve the war and tensions between all involved parties as well as discussing the human right’s violations, especially to women and children living in the affected areas and also other issues associated with this war.
