General Debate

 

In the 2nd General Debate after the short break, the delegates of the Security council reaffirmed their stands and discusrd the issue of Lethal Automated Robots (LARs).  The delegate of Russia believed that while the use of LARs is good, less developed countries such as Cuba will find it hard to do so. This stand was supported by the delegate of China, who felt that this issue needs to be resolved as the use of LARs will determine the future.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To build on this, the delegate of United Kingdom states that less developed countries should speak up on this issue and should place public security over military strength. The delegate also suggested an international arms treaty, with the coalition of different counties, to resolve this issue. The delegate of India then proposed a moderated caucus on thie issue of international humanitarian law.

Countries such as India called for more research to be done before the implementation of LARs, as technical mistakes could cause these machines to attack civilians instead of enemies. The delegate then called for the formation of a International Humanitarian Council to address this issue.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This stand was supported by the delegates of China, DPRK and USA,  who called for   more research to be done to ensure the safety of civilians.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Crisis Alert

North Korea has fired missiles which has hit a  South Korean cargo ship, killing 5 Chinese citizens.

Upon this being announced, the delegates of the Security Council immediately proceeded onto general debates regarding the crisis. A moderated caucus on the issue of the punishments of DPRK by the delegate of China. 

 

Moderated Caucus

The delegate of China strongly condemned DPRK for their actions, stating that DPRK should be sanctioned. This stand was supported by both France and USA, who stated that DPRK has compromised world peace, and that DPRK should face punishments for their actions

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

However, to the surprise of most, the delegate of South Korea stated that in order to resolve this issue, better relations with DPRK need to be promoted. The delegate of DPRK agreed with this stand and accepted all blame and punishments for the crisis.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

However, the delegate of Russia was skeptical of the delegate of DPRK, and stated that they are being very cooperative so that they get away unpunished, which will encourage them to commit more of such acts in the future.
